The internet has allowed people to be friends with someone, far away from them. Someone from India, can be friends with someone, thousands of kilometres away, from the other side of the world.
They can meet on Instagram, from playing games, or from a mutual interest on Reddit, Discord or even a random conversation. From one simple interaction, people can become friends
Online friends can be more than just simple interactions
they can even become closer than normal friends. But how could people be so close, without meeting each other?
The first thing that could be different, is that there isn’t a meeting in college, or hanging out. You don’t know much about each other, but you still share things that you wouldn’t normally share with other people
Sometimes, it can be easier to speak with someone online, because you feel safe. You feel that the other person won’t judge you. And as you get closer, you share more and more. And then, you become friends. Sometimes, it’s hard to speak with people, and you only feel safe with people you know. But then, you can turn to your online friend, and talk about anything. You could even do regular things together, like sending funny memes and videos, talking about what you watch, complain about school, or simply tell the other person something that happened that day.
But why is it that people feel so close to someone else, without actually meeting each other
Well, it’s because of all the things you can do together, and the fact that someone actually listens to what you say.
It’s because people find others with the same interests as them. Without the internet, we would hardly find people who like the same things as us.
But online, it’s so much easier
You can find people who like the same music, or game, or who enjoy the same things. And that’s another thing about online friends, that you can learn more about each other. And yes, you might not know much about what kind of person the other person is, but you might know more about their thoughts and ideas than your average friend.
But at the same time, online friendship isn’t the same as meeting someone, face-to-face
When people meet in real life, they experience much more, than what they could do online. They can see each other’s facial expressions, reactions and how they act when they’re sad or happy. But online, people might be hiding things, so you can never be one hundred percent sure that what they’re saying is the truth.
Another thing about online friends, is that there isn’t always a physical meeting. So, you can never be sure that the person is actually who they say they are.
You never know if they’re lying about who they are, or what they do. So, although online friends can become close to you, they’re still not like regular friends.
So, can people truly become close, without meeting each other? Well, I think that yes, people can become close to someone, without meeting each other. But no, I don’t think that online, people form real friendships, because there’s so many factors that go into making a friendship. People must get to know each other, and be trustworthy. But sometimes, people might think that they’re close to someone, when really, that’s not the case. I think that online, people can develop friendships, but those friendships aren’t always real. Sometimes, they can last only for a few weeks, and sometimes, those friendships could be real. So many things go into making a friendship. It could be a physical meeting, or it could happen online, or in real life. Some friendships last only a few weeks, while others can last for decades. And some friendships can be online, without the people meeting.
