The recent CJP – Cockroach Janta Party protests became one of the major phenomena not only among the people but also in the media.
It began in May 2026 after a controversial remark made by Chief Justice of India ‘Surya Kant’ during a Supreme Court hearing. While referring to some unemployed young people who criticized institutions online, he compared them to “cockroaches.” The comment sparked widespread outrage among students and young Indians. Soon after, Abhijeet Dipke, a political communications strategist, responded by creating the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) as a satirical online movement.
Initially, it was just a farce which later became a nationwide youth rally and a loud call to address several burning issues related not only to the examination system but also to other social problems.
The organized rallies involved thousands of people who gathered to voice their opinion about the ongoing heated debate concerning the introduction of examination reform and other policies with both direct and indirect impact on millions of citizens’ lives. These protesters appealed to the authorities to end the years-long discrimination and make active steps to ensure equality.
Soon the CJP protest acquired huge popularity among the youth and managed to organize a nationwide movement via social media platforms. The rally managed to attract thousands of participants in several cities, becoming the largest student protest in recent years.
Nevertheless, while the media speculation concerning the reason for the protests suggested the focus on the government’s intention to change the examination system, the student community insisted that there were much more important matters to be discussed. The students demanded the resignation of the education minister Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan which led to the protests causing a massive political controversy as well as vigorous discussion of opinions between politicians.
Despite the various intentions behind the mass rallies and the ongoing protests, it can be stated with certainty that the CJP calls for action succeeded in bringing attention to several important issues.
